My name is Caroline Joan Peixoto and I was born in New Jersey of Azorean descent. Since then I've lived in Lisbon, New York, Kigali, San Francisco, Colorado, and Montana. 

Throughout my life moving and writing has been the common thread. I studied ballet as a child and founded Ballet Rwanda in 2008. Today it serves the city of Kigali as City Arts, a children’s arts center. My love of movement was compounded when I began studying yoga in 2012.

I've worked as a journalist for Rwanda’s national newspaper, The New Times, in addition to freelancing. In 2017, a story I wrote about Colorado wildfires won the award for first place from the Colorado Press Association. In 2019, I published a collection of stories titled Bird by Bike. I am the Co-Founder and Director of River Arts & Books.

I’m driven by a passion and reverence for the natural world. In 2021 I became a mother, and life changed all together.
